Life Center

A safe nurturing environment where seniors, youth and families can

be supported, and receive assistance in one location, is needed in our community. The development of a community center will assist in growing relationships that will mold proper spiritual, social and emotional skills for our vulnerable at-risk groups. The involvement of the public with this center is critical in facilitating a stronger community bond with one another, in producing strong future leaders through the youth programs.

We are inviting support from the community and local businesses in helping with the development of this vital community asset. Our aim is to create an environment in which youth and families have a sense of belonging, thus improving and bettering the community.

The center will house a multitude of services which aim to change the trajectory of the lives of many in our community. These will include youth and family services, vocational training opportunities, collaborative programming, family empowerment and economic empowerment services, providing a comprehensive approach to eliminating barriers to success for both children and families. Research as shown that community centers are beneficial in both the reduction of drug and alcohol use and criminal behaviors. Our goal is to be a resource and safe nurturing space that provides sustainable life skills, mentoring programs and community involvement opportunities to the at-risk people of all ages.

Transportation to this center will be a central key to this center’s success. We are soliciting support from the dealerships in our area to provide an answer to this. The transportation gap that our families suffer from is a huge barrier and contributes to the continued lack of services for these communities.

Our initial plan is outlined below:

Computer Lab

We are planning a fully functional computer lab for children and families to access. We all know that in the world today, especially now post pandemic, most things are accessed online. Whether it’s completing school work, applying for a job, looking for an apartment or applying for assistance, a connection to the internet and a tablet or computer is necessary. We would like to have at least 12 PCs with printers available for use by the community.

Tutoring Assistance

Our plans include utilizing volunteers for onsite tutoring for all school age children, as well as test preparation for standardize testing including FSA, ACT and SAT.

Mentoring At-Risk Teens

Mentoring programs are essential for boys and girls. This includes organized activities, peer tutoring, and specialized programming.

GED Assistance

Our plans include utilizing volunteers for on-site tutoring for GED test preparation for adult peers.

Single Mothers Assistance

Assistance includes donation assistance, food assistance, support groups, referrals to community support services, and additional activities.

Senior Citizen Assistance

Assistance includes recreational activities, meal assistance and referrals to community support services.

Gymnasium

Having a safe place to exercise and work off excess energy is vital. Basketball, volleyball, badminton, dance, and other physical activities are planned.
